Yatton today (Saturday)

Most  of the morning was spent walking beside the A38, very noisy and hot.  Later in the day I walked along an old railway track called the strawberry line.

It has been very hot and hard on my feet, but a good day and I am now almost two  days ahead of plan.  If I can stay this far ahead I am going to have a few days off once I get to Worcester.

Three people waved to me today, but no idea who.

Tunnel on the disused railway line.

A perfectly situated tea shop with carriages and cakes.

Bongo waiting at Yatton

Bridgwater(Friday)

Bridgwater has a bridge over some water.  That's it really.

Tomorrow is a mixture of walking along the A38 and an old railway track.

Wellington

A short walk today of about 9 miles so that I am finished early enough to go to a dinner in Bristol.

Saw these two mad signs within yards of each other on entering the outskirts of Wellington.  The second one says "Dogs blood wanted".

Tiverton Parkway

Walked through endless villages with interesting names and nothing else of interest.  Take "Black Dog", this turns out to be a few council houses and a pub called The Black Dog.  If the pub had been called the White Cat then I would have been impressed.

Morchard road today

A much shorter day today, with a long break in the middle.

The blue plaque says Ted Hughes was ere.   Well near here, not actually here.

Reached Okehampton 10pm

The first part of the day was great.  I walked round the edge of Dartmoor until Lydford where I intended to stop for lunch but it was already 4.30.   The next bit was a cycle path and very easy going, so I took a shortcut and got completely lost.   Got to Okehampton at 10pm and very tired after what I think was 23 miles.  Much too far really to do day after day so I am going to have some short days.

Tavistock - in Devon at last

Carrying on as far as Okehampton today
